Hobo Popcorn

a fun way to cook popcorn over a campfire.


  • Heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  • 1 Teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 Tablespoon popcorn kernels
  • Margarine or butter to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • A long stick
  • String


  • Cut one 18″ square of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
  • In the center of the square, pour 1 teaspoon vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon popcorn kernels.
  • Bring corners of foil together to make a pouch and seal edges. Be sure to leave room for popcorn to pop and expand.
  • Tie the pouch to a long stick with a string.
  • Hold pouch over hot fire and shake constantly until all corn has popped. Make sure the bag and the string are not touching the fire.
  • Season with squeeze margarine and salt to taste and enjoy.


Spice up your Hobo Popcorn by trying these other seasonings: Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon taco seasoning mix and add 3 tablespoons roasted peanuts Drizzle with melted almond bar, chocolate chips or peanut butter Sprinkle with chili powder, garlic salt, onion salt or sugar Toss in a handful of M & M’s
