Easy Apple Dumplings

The air is crisp and the leaves are beginning to show their autumn colors. With this change in season brings apples. Instead of making the tradition apple pie fall dessert, try something new like this easy Southern Apple Dumplings recipe. The whole family will love it!

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 oz.) tube refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 large Granny Smith or Gala apple, peeled and cored
  • 1/2 C. butter
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1/4 C. brown sugar
  • 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
  • 1 t. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 (12 oz.) can or 6 oz. can Mountain Dew soda
  • Vanilla or cinnamon ice cream, optional

Instructions

  • Slice the peeled and cored apple into eight slices.
  • Open the crescent rolls and separate them. Take a crescent triangle and wrap it around an apple slice. Be sure that the edges are covered. Continue this for the remaining seven apple slices.
  • Place the wrapped apples into an 8″x 8″ baking pan several inches apart.
  • In a sauce pan place the butter, sugar and brown sugar and melt while stirring to combine the ingredients.
  • Remove the sauce from the heat and add vanilla.
  • Pour the sauce over the dumplings. Then pour the soda around the edges of the pan.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35 to 45 minutes.
