Civitan International is one of the world’s premier service organizations.

Founded in 1917 and based out of Birmingham, Alabama, Civitan groups are revered for their charitable service and contributions to society. Those who join Civitan are able to become exceptional citizens by committing to bettering their community. The name “Civitan” comes from “civitas,” the Latin word for “citizenship,” something members of the organization are especially proud of.

100 years after the organization’s founding, Civitan members continue to serve their communities in a variety of ways. They might hold relief drives for tornado victims, host a fundraising dance for people with disabilities, build wheelchair ramps for needy seniors, or plant trees in a park. If it makes a community better, chances are a Civitan club is helping out!

At the international level, Civitan has chosen to focus on service to the developmentally disabled. The Civitan International Research Center (pictured below) is a groundbreaking facility in Birmingham that makes enormous contributions to the understanding of disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy, brain cancer, and more.

Youth between the ages of 13 to 18 can also join Junior Civitan International, which allows younger members to build character and hone essential life skills. There’s also the Young Professionals Civitan program for adults ages 21 to 35, which places an even greater emphasis on service projects.

There are Civitans across the country and the world, so if you are interested in joining, there’s likely a Civitan chapter near you!

The Civitan Creed

This is the Civitan Creed as found on their website:

I AM CIVITAN: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time.
MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others.
MY EARS hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress, and unity.
MY EYES search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan.
MY MOUTH utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue.
MY MIND teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country.
MY HEART beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity, and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth.
MY SOUL knows no fear but its own unworthiness.
MY HOPE is for a better world through Civitan.
MY MOTTO: builders of good citizenship.
MY BELIEF: do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
MY PLEDGE: to practice the Golden Rule and to build upon it a better and nobler citizenship.

Event sales feature a personal touch, taking advantage of friendly crowds and physical interaction with our stellar products. Online sales utilize the power of the Internet to allow fundraisers to make easy sales to supporters close and far. Use one, two, or all three methods to earn money for your cause!
