Hi, it’s Kristy in the Rada kitchen, and today I’m bringing you the recipe for chocolate chip pretzel bars. It’s a yummy, sweet and salty caramel dessert that your family will enjoy. It’s also great for a bake sale or any other occasion where you need a tasty dessert. And this is one of the recipes in our recipe book titled 101 Recipes with Chocolate. If you love chocolate, here’s 101 recipes you will love. So let’s get started.

In a large mixing bowl we’re going to take a 17.5 ounce chocolate chip cookie mix, I just bought it in a store in a package like that. We’re going to add a half cup of butter, or a stick, that’s been softened. And then 1 egg. And now we’re going to mix this until we get a soft dough.
So now we have this soft dough. We’re going to press this into the bottom of our pan to make a crust. Now we’re going to stick this in the pre-heated 350 degree oven for 10 minutes. And meanwhile we’ll mix up our caramel.

So, while your crust is baking in the oven, we’re going to take a large saucepan and over medium-low heat we’re going to heat up 24 caramels that you’ve unwrapped and then a 14 ounce can of sweetened, condensed milk. We’re just going to heat those until the caramels melt into the milk.
Now, you’ll want to constantly stir this mixture so it doesn’t stick to the bottom. That’s what I love about this Rada Cook’s Spoon. It has a flat end. I eve use it as a pan scraper because it fits right on the bottom of that. Now the caramels are starting to melt so we’re going to add 2 tablespoons of butter to that.

So, my timer went off, so I’m going to take this crust out of the oven. While the crust is still warm we’re going to press 60 of these little pretzel twists down into the dough. To get all these in here, you’re going to have to overlap the pretzels. Looks better than making them all uniform. Then we’re going to pour this caramel mixture over the top of it, and pop it back into the oven for 20 minutes.

So, our bars have been cooling for 2 hours, I’m going to take a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave for a minute to 2 minutes. So now the chocolate is perfectly melted, it took about a minute and a half on high in the microwave. Now we’re going to take a spoon, drizzle it over the top.
