What is a Gyro?
You may be familiar with gyros from Greek restaurants and food booths at fairs, but not everyone is familiar with this tasty sandwich. A gyro is essentially meat served in a flatbread. They are traditionally cooked in a vertical broiler, though various heat sources will do the trick. Although lamb is the most commonly used meat for a gyro, one can also enjoy them with chicken, pork, and beef. Cucumber, onion, tomato, and tzatziki sauce complete the dish.

Hi there! Jess in the Rada Kitchen, thanks for joining. Today we are bringing fair food to you with Greek chicken gyros. We’re going to serve these up with some homemade tzatziki sauce. We are going to start with our marinated chicken.
Here we have some chicken breast, about 2 pounds that we’ve had marinating in our fridge. Our marinade consists of Greek yogurt, garlic cloves, olive oil, white wine vinegar, oregano, and salt and pepper. You can find the exact measurements at the end of this clip. You want to marinate this for about 2 hours. Definitely not longer than 24 hours in the fridge.
So over medium heat we’re just going to add our chicken onto our grill pan. You could of course do this on an outdoor grill as well and get those beautiful char marks. We’re going to go ahead and flip our chicken. As you can see we’ve got this nice brown crust on it which is what we’re looking for. We are ready to start with our tzatziki sauce.
Here I have an English cucumber, or a seedless cucumber, which is what you’re looking for. You can see it’s longer and skinnier. We’re just going to go ahead and scrub this over our bowl. So I have drained off most of the excess liquid into the cucumber and to this I am going to add 2 cloves of garlic that we’ve chopped. A tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. And about 2 cups of Greek yogurt. Either white wine or red wine vinegar. Just a few teaspoons.
Lastly, we’ll just season this up with some salt and pepper. You can either chop or slice these. I’m just going to have some thin slices of cucumber that we’re going to stuff into our pita. Now for some thinly sliced red onion. OK, let’s go ahead and thinly slice our chicken breast. As you can see it’s nice and tender from sitting in that marinade.
Let’s pack our pita. I cheated and bought a pre-sliced pita. Of course, you can buy the big, whole ones and do your pita as a wrap. I’m going to add slices of chicken first. You can pack it with whatever toppings you like. I’m going to use some spinach, chopped tomato, and sliced cucumber. And then we’ll top it off with our sauce. You can also add to this some Kalamata olives or feta cheese. Just spoon it in. Don’t forget a couple pieces of our sweet red onion.
So now you don’t have to wait to go out to your favorite Greek restaurant or the state fair. Thanks so much for joining me today. Be sure to check us out at RadaCutlery.com or subscribe to our YouTube channel to get more great recipes just like this one.

Looks like a great recipe but the ingredients are very confusing. I cannot find the exact measurements for the marinade. You have 3 recipes at the end of the clip, none of them appear to be the ingredients she mentioned in the marinade. Then there is a recipe for the Gyros which is very strange! Something is missing . . .
Love recipes from Rada. Always delicious & almost always super-easy. Win-win. But a question – would it be possible for you to include a PDF version of recipes so they can be saved & printed when needed? Thanks & keep those recipes coming!
