Fall is finally here, and as the weather begins to cool off your kids will be spending more time indoors. How to Make Not-So-Scary Scarecrow Cookies

 

Scarecrow Cookies
Recipe Type: Dessert
How to make Not-so-scary Scarecrow Cookies. Perfect for little hands to help create!
Ingredients
  • 1 C cream cheese ready to spread frosting
  • small zippered plastic bags
  • 12 round sugar cookies
  • 18 cream-filled sugar wafers, any color
  • Gumdrops (optional)
  • 24 Skittles, any color
  • 12 jelly beans, any color
  • tinted or toasted coconut
  • Colored decorating frosting, any color
Instructions
  1. Using your favorite sugar cookie recipe mix, bake a dozen cookies and allow to cool.
  2. Cover the tops of cookies evenly with white frosting.
  3. Using a sharp knife, cut six sugar wafer in half crosswise.
  4. Place one wafer half at the top edge of each frosted cookie, press to adhere. Next, place an uncut wafer just below the half wafer, creating a hat.
  5. Take your colored frosting and place in a plastic bag. Then pipe a thin line of colored decorating frosting where the two wafers meet. Attach a gumdrop to the hat if desired, you can also use a Skittle or jelly bean.
  6. Add Skittles for eyes and a jelly bean for a nose. Using the decorating frosting draw a mouth.
  7. Press coconut into the frosting for hair. To tint coconut: place coconut in a small zippered plastic bag and add a small amount of yellow food coloring. Rub coconut and coloring inside bag until coconut is tinted to desired color. We used this method to make our scarecrows. To toast coconut: place coconut in a single layer in a dry skillet over medium heat or on a baking sheet in a 350 degree oven for 5 to 8 minutes or until golden brown
  8. Use any remaining frosting in bag to pipe on dots in the center of eyes, eye lashes, decorative details on hats and other features, if desired.

What you will need:
