With this recipe, you can impress friends and family alike with your own peanut butter cups. A few simple ingredients and a half-hour of freezer time is all it takes.

Homemade Peanut Butter Cups Video Recipe

Ingredients you will need:

  • 10 paper liners
  • 8 (1 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate baking squares
  • 1 1/3 C. semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips
  • 2 T. vegetable shortening
  • 1 C. creamy peanut butter
  • 2 T. butter, softened
  • 1/3 C. powdered sugar (sifted)

In a mixing bowl, combine 2/3 C. chocolate chips, 1 T. shortening, and 4 chocolate baking squares.

Place paper lines in muffin tins. Ladle chocolate mixture evenly across the 10 paper lines. Freeze for 15 minutes.

In another mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, butter, and powdered sugar.

Spread peanut butter mixture across the top of the chocolate in the paper liners.

Spread the chocolate evenly across the 10 liners. Freeze for 15 minutes. Then they’re ready to serve and enjoy!

Copycat Peanut Butter Cups

Ingredients

  • 10 paper liners
  • 8 (1 oz.) squares semi-sweet baking chocolate, divided
  • 1 1/3 C. semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips, divided
  • 2 T. vegetable shortening, divided
  • 1 C. creamy peanut butter
  • 2 T. butter, softened
  • 1/3 C. powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions

  • Line 10 standard muffin cups with paper liners and set aside.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat four squares baking chocolate in the microwave in 30-second intervals until partially melted. Add 2/3 cup chocolate chips and heat 30 seconds more or until nearly melted. Add 1 tablespoon shortening and stir until shortening and chocolate chips are melted. Divide melted chocolate evenly among liners. Set on a level surface in freezer for 15 minutes or until firm.
  • In small mixing bowl, beat peanut butter, butter, and powdered sugar on low speed until well blended. Divide mixture evenly among liners and spread over chocolate to create a smooth surface. Set in freezer about 15 minutes.
  • Melt remaining four squares baking chocolate, 2/3 cup chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon shortening as directed above. Pour a little chocolate on top of peanut butter layer in one liner. Immediately tap pan on work surface to evenly distribute chocolate, breaking any bubbles with a toothpick. Repeat with remaining chocolate. Freeze for 15 minutes or until set. 
  • Refrigerate or bring to room temperature before serving. 

Notes

*For miniature Peanut Butter Cups, line miniature muffin cups with liners; divide chocolate and peanut butter mixtures evenly among liners as directed above.
