Garlicky Chicken Wings

Did you know that chicken wings used to be considered a near-worthless piece of meat? It’s true! Before the 1960’s, wings were often used as part of stock or fed in large quantities to animals such as minks. It’s uncertain exactly how wings became a cherished part of American cuisine, but by the 1970’s, they could be found everywhere! Today, they’re not only a year-round staple for many, but are synonymous with football games, especially the Super Bowl.

Hi, Kristy in the Rada kitchen, and today I want to bring you a recipe for garlicky chicken wings. It would be the perfect game day appetizer or snack, or you could even serve it as a main entrée. And it requires just a few simple ingredients. What you need is a skillet, we’ll add olive oil to that. You need 1.5 pounds of chicken wings. These are already cut into portions. We’ll go to the stove and brown these up.

Now, for our sauce, in a bowl we’re going to mix, this is kind of a secret, neat ingredient, it’s ¾’s cup of Coca Cola. 2.5 tablespoons of soy sauce. A half cup of brown sugar. And then some garlic powder to your taste. I like them garlicky so I’m going to use a tablespoon. I’ll probably go back and taste it. WE’re going to mix that all together. Get the sugar blended in. This Rada Handi-Stir is great. I’d be lost if I didn’t have it in my kitchen. It’s great to mix up stuff like this, but also scrambled eggs, puddings, the wires are spaced out enough that it’s easy to clean. It also helps get air into anything you’re mixing, especially scrambled eggs.

In my skillet I have the tablespoon of olive oil heated up. We’re going to add our chicken wings. We’re going to fry these until they’re brown on both sides. Here’s another Rada product I love, this little Granny Fork. The little tines are sharp and can pick up any type of food. I even use it on the grill. I love it to fry chicken. It so easily pierces the skin and flips it over in the pan.

Now our chicken is brown on both sides. We’re going to reduce this to low. Then we’re going to pour over our Coca Cola mixture. Then we’re going to cover this and simmer it for 30 minutes. You might want to turn occasionally as it cooks.

Our chicken has cooked for 30 minutes. We’re going to remove that lid and cook it another 15 minutes or until this sauce thickens up.

Our garlicky chicken wings are ready to serve. They are the perfect Super Bowl appetizer, a unique recipe made with Coca Cola. Check out more recipes at our website at www.radacutlery.com.
